Places To Hide Money In Your House

Hide Money in the HouseNot many people carry cash anymore. However, sometimes you need to keep money in your house for emergencies or maybe you are saving for a vacation. Whatever the case may be, sometimes you need to hide money in your home. You don’t want to leave it out in the open or even put it in a “regular hiding place.” Here are a few places you may want to stash your money:

Underneath Furniture or Appliances

Have you ever considered hiding money in your house or apartment? One of the best places to hide some cash is in an envelope taped underneath a heavy piece of furniture or appliance. Pick a piece that is difficult to move such as a refrigerator, washing machine, or couch.

Fake Electrical Outlet

Most homes and apartments have a couple of electrical outlets in each room. If you own your own home or condo, consider drilling a hole in your wall and outfitting it with a fake outlet cover. It’s a great hiding spot for a plastic bag full of money, especially if it’s an outlet cover that you have to unscrew to remove.

Empty Box of Frozen Food

Another great hiding place for money is in your freezer. Wrap your money in a plastic bag and stick it in an empty frozen food box (such as a TV dinner). While thieves tend to be clever enough to search random places for money stashes, looking in your freezer won’t be the first place they look. Just make sure you remember what box your money is hidden in and that the other members of your household know as well. You don’t want someone accidentally reaching for that box expecting to find food!

Cleaning Items

The last thing a burglar is going to want to do is sift around laundry detergent or dish soap bottles. If you have a large laundry detergent container (preferably one that’s not see through), consider hiding your money inside. Of course, you’ll want to wash out the container before you stuff any money inside. When you need to retrieve the cash, just cut open the container. It’s as simple as that!

Fake Plants

Many fake plants come with fake soil. If that fake soil is easy to take apart, you might consider wrapping up some money in plastic bags and storing it in that fake soil. Or you could tape an envelope of money to the inside bottom or side of the plant’s pot.

Hollowed Out Can

Many of us have at least one or two aerosol cans somewhere in the house or apartment. Whether it’s a can of spray paint or hairspray, hollowing it out and using it as a hiding place is a good idea. This is even better if you have a collection of similar cans as it helps better hide your money. For instance, you might have a dozen cans of spray paint. If you hollow out only one can and use that as your hiding place, you have a better chance of keeping your money hidden. If a burglar is running short on time, it’s unlikely that they’re going to check all twelve cans of paint.

Inside a Picture Frame

Almost everyone has been told not to hide money on the back of a picture frame. It’s a pretty obvious hiding spot, especially if you have a lot of pictures in prominent places in your house. However, you might want to think about hiding some money inside the picture frame. Most people place a piece of cardboard or paper between the frame and the picture. Tape a bill or two between the picture and the cardboard instead of hiding it on the back of the frame.

Curtain Rod

If you have metal curtain rods, rolling up some money and shoving it into the curtain rod can be another great place to hide money. Not only is this a place thieves aren’t likely to look, but if you have multiple windows and multiple curtain rods, they’re not going to take the chance of trying to take all of them apart. Plus, curtain rods are usually in hard to reach places, making them an even better spot for hiding money.
